    Crying [:'(] Opportunity Problem

    Hi all, this is my first post on this forum and I hope that problem that I have has an easy answer. We use SLX for our database and it's worked well for us. Unfortunately I have this very annoying problem that always seems worst when it occurs and I have a prospect on the phone. When I try to open an existing Opportunity for a prospect, a majority of the time that Opportunity takes a huge amount of time to open. I am talking about 3 to 5 minutes before it opens. I usually get the "Loading" screen or just a blank screen while it churns through whatever it is doing. It bogs down my machine and I can't do anything else in SLX until that Opp pops open. Most of the time I can get into a web browser or email so just check the news or reply to email while it's doing that. The thing is, it has done this for me for over a year. My IT guy has tried just about everything to get it to work, even talking with the SLX guys several times about a solution. He has installed a patch that was supposed to keep SLX from opening multiple records (something they told him to try) but it still is a problem. It's not the hardware because he gave me a different computer.

    I would love it if someone had a definitive reason and solution for this problem. Please let me know what you're able to find. Thank you!

    Hey, FamilyGuyFan !

    This is actually a very easy problem to fix but requires a little analysis.

    You don't mention which version you are using so I am going to assume 6.2 or greater. What you need you/IT guy to do is find slxprofiler.exe in c:\program files\saleslogix. Start SLX and get to a point immediately prior to where the problem will occur. Then start SLX Profiler and profile SalesLogix.exe. Then, continue until you see the issue. After it returns, go back to Profiler and you will see all the commands that SLX sent to the server. One of them will have a very large Execute(ms) time. If you can copy/paste the trace and email mike.spragg@empath-e.com we should then be able to see what's causing the issue. From there, you will probably need a slight adjustment to one of your grids (I'm betting History or Attachment!).

    Make sure that if you are on your Propects record that you use the Opportunities tab at the bottom of the screen and just double click on your opportunity.

    If you are clicking on the Opportunities entity on the Navigation Bar (left side of screen), then you are opening the default group that you have set up in your options.

    If you go from the tab at the bottom of the Prospect Detail View, then you are going directly to the ONE opportunity.

    Hi Dale,

    Yes actually that is the one that I am opening (single Opportunity record in the Opp tab at the Prospect Detail View). I was told before that it was a bug and that it was trying to open every single Opp. There are only a couple of us in the office that are having this prob. but it is aggravating. I was hoping a different laptop would be the fix but it really hasn't been.

     Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the double post earlier, I was impatient with the POST button... Surprise

    OK, yep, 7.0.1 - thanks, that helps - it's most likely a grid/tab loading all records instead of just the ones for the opp you are looking at. Can be fixed - but if you can get the trace, that will help a lot.

    you mentioned earlier that you thought that it might be an adjustment to History or Attachment. There was a point a while back where my Email button under the Attachment tab stopped working. Really weird, just would not open an email and put the attachment in. It said something along the lines of The Mail Merge encountered an error and cannot continue. The Attachment path could not be found.

    Do you think if there was something adjusted to fix my Opportunities problem that it would screw up the email/attachment tab? Just a weird problem that came out of the blue. That is when he got me a different laptop.

    No, from the files you sent me - definitely an issue with the Notes-History grid - apply the fixes I sent you and you'll be fine !!
