That is one thing I have learned from using SalesLogix. There is always multiple ways of doing anything.
If your company is using a sync server, there is also Agents that can be used to send emails and reports.
You could also create a Contact Process that you would have to assign to the contact that is associated with the opportunity, but it could automatically send out an email template.
There are probably more that I can't think of...off the top of my head. Perhaps another user has some ideas.
I would check with your business partner to see which method would best fit your needs.
