Trying to Access different data sources from crystal reports inside of SalesLogix

Has anybody been able to create a crystal report that connects to another database other than SalesLogix and is able to run inside of the application.  We are trying to create a report that has a subreport that accesses a AS400 database.  The main report is pure SalesLogix data.  We are using version 6.2.4 of SLX.

    Thanks

    Hi Steve,

This is a tricky one and my first thoughts were that the SLX Provider would prevent you accessing the other datasource.

After speaking to one of our consultants, they vagually remember doing something similar about 2 years ago and instead of including the repot in the reports section of SLX, they used a button on a form to call the report directly. I don't know how/why doing it this way would be any more successful, but it may be worth a go. The downside of course is that you'd need to customise a form...

Also, checkout www.SLXDeveloper.com for this sort of thing as there'll be loads of people who'll be all over this like a rash (if in fact this very question has not been asked before!)

You "should" be able to do this by using a sub report with a seperate connection defined for that report.  You will likely need to handle authentication when you run the report but it should work, unless the provider block all other connections but I do not believe it does.

Thank you for the response.  I think we are just going to bring the data into the application and then create the report
