    v7.5 on Server 2008 and SQL 2008

Has anyone been using v7.5 on both Microsoft 2008 Server Products?  Curious if there is any benifit or issues going this route from 6.2 on 2003 w/ SQL 2000 v.s. Server 2003 and SQL 2005?

Also looking for any technical doc's for migration, configuration, and best pratices.  Thanks!

Re: v7.5 on Server 2008 and SQL 2008

The only benefits right now will affect SQL/OS/Memory. SLX is still a 32bit product and there is no specific gain - other than the natural gain frm using this (more memory, better handling, MSDE -> SQL/e and double DB size etc).

However, beware. If you plan to go to SQL2005 and SQL/E then you must ensure that your clients are capable of running SQL/E - on average it requires double the resources of SQL2000. We've had clients go back to SQL2000 due to this - where the machine is on the edge of supporting SQL2000 and fails with poor performance on SQL/E.

Also, see http://www.empath-e.com/Support/resources.asp and look for SQL2005/8 and Windows 2008.

    Regards
    Mike

Re: v7.5 on Server 2008 and SQL 2008

Thanks for the information, it looks like 2008 will be the route we are going to go since the costs are pretty close for licensing and I'd rather have all new HW/SW up-to date at the same time.  We also most likely were going to go with the web version and not use the disconnected client, and use Terminal Services or VPN connections instead so that we don't have to worry about SQL Express or the sales staff remembering to sync when they come back.

I'm not sure if anyone has gone this route or has a preference on the web vs windows for v7.5?  We are using group wise as the e-mail client and server, and there is a ton of data, but it no standard and more like one big address book.  So for the simplicity factor, while getting things more streamlined and into a process it looks like the Web might benefit us more at the moment.  Or at least that was my thoughts?

Thanks for the link, looks like there's some good reads on that site!
